Azamara Cruises is a new cruise line set up by Celebrity Cruises using two recently transferred ships from the Pullmantur Line that were going to be called Celebrity Journey and Celebrity Quest. These ships have had an interesting life, starting off as R7 and R6 respectively for Renaissance Cruise Line, they became Blue Moon and Blue Star for Pullmantur. After Royal Caribbean purchased Pullmantur in 2006, they have swapped a few ships around giving Celebrity Cruises the two ex R ships, with Pullmantur receiving Celebrity's Zenith in return. The original plan was for Celebrity Journey and Celebrity Quest to join Celebrity Xpedition, however with the arrival of Azamara Cruises this has now been put on hold
Azamara Cruises or rather Celebrity Cruises have refitted Azamara Journey at a cost of some $19M with Azamara Quest set to undergo a similar event. This means the two 30,277 ton ships will carry 710 passengers in what Celebrity Cruises class as a deluxe standard. They say that deluxe is between premium and luxury, so it is reasonable to expect Berlitz to give Azamara Cruises either 4*+ or a 5 star rating.
